Stimmorchester

Free Vocal Improvisation

Seven singers celebrate free, collective improvisations, extremely complex, subtle, imaginative, cross-bordering and enchanting. cede.ch

The vowels and consonants are hissed, twisted and turned around, superimposed and swirled. One can follow the six vocalists with pleasure through the wonders of the female voice and enter with them sound for sound, noise for noise, again and again surprising rooms.

Rahel Kraft initiated the Stimmorchester as a free vocal improv group in 2011 with 7 professional singers. At the heart is the fascination with the human voice as an immensely malleable and flexible instrument. Initially started as a ongoing open accessible improv concert in a church in Lucerne, the group soon performed in various spaces and contexts, often in collaboration with artists from various fields such as dance, sculpture, performance and fine art. Their unique style between noise, harmonic structures and songs can be heard on their album ‘Room – Unit Records 2013‘.
