Airstroller

Sound Performance

Or listening to air molecules by walking slowly. “Air” stands for the air we breathe or a short melodious song but can also mean an impression or a feeling we might have in a specific place or situation. Air and breath connect not only people, plants and animals with the environment, but all living organisms, networks and structures.

In Airstroller, Rahel Kraft deals on the one hand with breath as a fundamental phenomenon – on the border between voluntary and involuntary control, between conscious and unconscious; on the other hand as a metaphorical reflection on complex environmental issues, an attempt to perceive and grasp the smallest dimensions by walking slowly. The work was created during a residency at Sitterwerk St. Gallen in March and June 2022. It integrates the specific sounds and conditions of the place and leads through the interior and exterior spaces of the Sitterwerk and reflects the atmosphere of the site via air, the soles of the feet and the auricle.
