INNERN (2018) is a site-specific audiowalk/app created by the sound art collective Tomoko Hojo and Rahel Kraft. It is composed for the hiking path between Scuol and Nairs in the Engadine, a remote area of the Swiss Alps. This walking and listening experience allows one to immerse oneself in one’s own, deep perception. Each composition is located to a site and activated via GPS (geolocalisation).
The work is based on talks about auditive memories with local inhabitants from ten villages. It researches the relationship between people, sound and place and the specific Engadin soundscape with its endangered language Romansh (rätoromanisch).
Because of the multiple languages used by Hojo+Kraft (Japanese, German, English) each interview has been transformed, translated and re-translated. They are combined with performances on site, field recordings and composed parts eventually meted into a fictive listening journey. Text extracts are interpreted by the renowed Viennese voice artist Christian Reiner (ECM).
